Directly from my brain and onto the internet.

I wrote this poem about three and a half years ago, when I was a senior in high school. I just realized that now that I have this blog I have a good place to post it. I entered it in poetry.com's poetry contest (which, strangely enough, looks like it's still going on...) and they told me it was selected to be put in a book and tried to sell me a copy. I strongly suspect that they put everyone's poem in a book which they try to sell to them, and that's how they make their money. Well, more power to 'em. If I had money to throw around I wouldn't mind being able to pull out a book of poetry and point to the one that I'd written. Which, in case you forgot the title of this blog entry, is right here:

Seconds
by Peter Weisberg

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.
Count the seconds

30 seconds until the comercial is over
90 seconds until my favorite show comes on
160 seconds until the school bell rings

480 seconds until my lunch break
1500 seconds until the work day is over
In a few more seconds the light will turn green
A few hundred seconds and I'll be home
Ramen Noodles take 180 seconds to cook
Cold pizza takes at least 120 seconds to heat in the microwave
About a thousand seconds to get ready for bed
They say a good night's sleep is 28800 seconds
I usually need more

I'm late! I only have 1800 seconds to get to work!
480 seconds until my lunch break

In america the average life span is 75 years.
That's 2,366,820,000 seconds
Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

Update: I just found this website about poetry.com, otherwise known as the International Library of Poetry among other names. I thought they seemed fishy, but I didn't bother to check on them because I never even considered buying what they were selling anyway.
